The Honourable Company
of Esquires was established in
December 2007* as a permanent organisation to deal with all affairs of
the degree of Esquire and to afford to the members thereof the means of
intercommunication. Its principal objects are:-
• To take
such action in the interests of the Esquires of England, or of any
individual esquire, or members of their families as may be appropriate.
• To publish a Roll of The Honourable Company of
Esquires at regular intervals.
• To provide advice to those esquires seeking to
obtain armorial
bearings from the College of Arms to enable them to be added to the
Roll and to be received as full members.
• To provide opportunities for members to meet each
other socially. After deduction of expenses any surplus money from
social occasions is credited to a Charitable Trust, currently the
Esquires' Trust.
• To maintain Charitable Trust(s) with objects
enabling significant contributions to be made to worthwhile causes in
the community at large and generally unconnected with the degree of
esquire.
The
membership of the The Honourable
Company of Esquires is by invitation only and
restricted to those who are in right of English Armorial
Bearings and would traditionally be accepted
as Esquires of England. This requirement has no regard for gender,
race, creed
or colour.
Fellowship:
The condition of sharing similar interests, ideals, or
experiences, as by reason of profession, religion, or nationality.
The companionship of individuals in a congenial atmosphere and on
equal terms.
Esquire:
Historically a title of
rank.
Tables of precedence invariably ended with the ranks of Esquire and
Gentleman,
in that order.
* The Honourable Company of Esquires was incorporated in February 2008
as a not for profit Private Limited Company with no share capital and
exemption from the use of the word "limited" in its name under section
30 of the Companies Act.
